Chantal Sweeney
Legal Assistant
Chantal joined Clarke Family and Child Law as a Legal Assistant in July 2026. She earned both her Bachelor of Arts (2024) and Master of Arts (2026) in Criminal Justice and Public Policy from the University of Guelph. Her graduate research focused on how the victimization to criminalization continuum experienced by Indigenous women is both discussed and understood at sentencing under section 718.2(e) of the Criminal Code. Chantal’s research seeks to explore how Indigenous women have become the fastest growing prison population in Canada in a post Gladue and Ipeelee era focusing on how Indigenous women have often been under-protected and overcriminalized.
Through her academic work, Chantal developed a strong passion for social advocacy and creating meaningful reform within the Canadian justice system. Her previous placement with the Crown Attorney’s Office at the John Sopinka Courthouse provided valuable experience in a fast-paced legal environment and further strengthened her interest in the legal field.
Outside of work, Chantal enjoys reading, exploring local cafés, and travelling.
