Tara MacDougall

Tara is a lawyer with extensive litigation experience in Indigenous child welfare at an urban child welfare agency. In this role, she worked in close partnership with First Nations and urban Indigenous communities, supporting children, youth, and families in a respectful and collaborative way. Tara has Scottish and Irish heritage and grew up in Nova Scotia, before relocating to Ottawa to attend law school. Tara has also worked in community legal clinics, with experience spanning disability law, refugee law, victims’ rights, poverty law, and criminal law. Tara brings a thoughtful, humble approach to her practice, grounded in ongoing learning and meaningful partnership.

Called to the Ontario bar in 2014, Tara is currently completing a Master of Laws at the University of Ottawa. Her research focuses on judicial interpretation of An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Children, Youth and Families in child welfare proceedings. Outside of work, Tara volunteers with Girl Guides of Canada and enjoys spending time outdoors, especially near the water, with her family.
